Steven Godsey Grabs First Career Win at Brownstown Speedway
Brownstown, IN-May 13, 2000- Steven Godsey of Bedford, IN grabbed a slice of victory by scoring his first-ever Late Model feature win Saturday night on Papa John痴 Pizza Night at Brownstown Speedway. Other winners on the evening included Mike Fields in Super Stocks, Robert Walters in Bombers, and Collin Ambrose in the UMRA Midgets.

The 25 lap Late Model feature would see last week痴 winner Jim Curry jump to the early lead followed by Randy Petro, Doug Ault, Mark Barber, and Steven Godsey. Ault would slip by Petro on lap 2 for the second spot, as Curry began setting a blistering pace at the point around the rim of the 1/4 mile oval. Petro would continue to challenge Ault for the second spot until lap 6 when mechanical woes would see Petro park his unit in the infield for the evening.

Godsey and Barber were now battling for the third spot, with Godsey clearing Barber for the spot on lap 9, while Mark Bechelli moved into the top five at this point. Meanwhile, Godsey began to reel in Ault for the runner-up spot as the duo began a side-by-side battle until disaster would strike Ault on lap 16 when the veteran looped his mount in turn one, bringing out the only caution flag of the event.

On the restart, Curry would have Godsey glued to his bumper and on lap 19, Godsey looked to bypass Curry for the lead as the pair would battle side-by-side for the lead for the next three laps, with Godsey finally nosing past Curry on lap 22. The second-generation driver would then hold off the repeated challenges of the cagey veteran to snare his first career Late Model feature win at Brownstown behind the wheel of his Godsey痴 Body Shop, Circle Track Supply, Mullis Petroleum, Indiana Stone Works, AFCO, G-Force Racing #G4 C.J. Rayburn chassis entry. Curry would finish second, with Mark Barber coming home in third. Mark Bechelli would have a season-best run to finish in the fourth spot, while Marty O誰eal taking the fifth spot. Consy winner Scott Smith would finish sixth after starting 16th, while Brad Barrow, Brett Davis, Terry Eaglin, and Frankie Coomer completed the top ten.

Indiana Super Stock action saw Mike Fields of Brownstown, IN lead the entire 20 lap distance to grab his first win of 2000 at Brownstown in his NAPA, Sawyer Farms, MadDog Motorsports, Lichter Rubber Products Employees, The Boat Yard, John Ault Showhorses #33 Fly-By-U chassis mount. Tim Clark and Joe Johnson would battle for second, with Clark grabbing the runner-up spot. Greg Kendall and Nelson Gingery would complete the top five. Brad Cummings, Greg O誰eill, Dick Phillips, Trent Niflis, and Kevin Jones rounded out the top ten.

The Bomber feature would see second year driver Robert Walters of Bedford, IN drive his Cummings Race Engines, EXCEL by Mike Terry sponsored #71 Hobbs Chassis entry to his first career win at Brownstown by grabbing the checkered flag in the 15 lap feature event. Ray Godsey, Jr. would take runner-up honors for the night, while Bubba Woods won a race-long battle with Matt Bex to claim the third spot. John Phelps would come home in fifth. Completing the top ten were Jim Ruddick, Matt Cummings, Jeff Helton, Terrence Johnson, and Charlie Stevens.

The ADTEC Floor Care UMRA Midgets were also in action and Collin Ambrose of Owensboro, KY grabbed his third career UMRA win by outdistancing Terry Goff, Mike Miller, Carey Goff, and Travis Stickels to get the win. Completing the top ten were Mike Smith, Lynn Ambrose, Bobby Walton, Jim Weir, and J.T. Stapp.
