Brownstown Speedway would like to express our deepest sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of Steve Trabue.
Brownstown Speedway Hall of Famer Steve Trabue, whose racing career included two Late Model track titles at Kentucky tracks then continued with 25 seasons as a DIRTcar official, died Saturday at a Louisville, Ky., hospital after suffering a stroke at his Scottsburg, Ind., home. He was 79.
A competitor for more than 30 years in the Late Model, modified street stock, open-wheel modified and enduro divisions, Trabue's Late Model success included a 1994 track title at Barren County Speedway in Glasgow, Ky., and a 1996 championship at Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, Ky. He won the 1986 modified street stock championship at Brownstown, where his racing career began in 1967.
Trabue was a Late Model feature winner at Barren County, Bluegrass, Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, Ind., and Southlake Speedway in Crown Point, Ind., among others.
Trabue and his father Roy Trabue promoted I-65 Speedway in Scottsburg in 1983-84, an original track with the Bob Memmer-founded United Midwestern Promoters organization that later evolved into the DIRTcar brand. The Trabues helped Memmer organize the 1983 meeting at a Scottsburg hotel where UMP was born.
After his racing career, Steve, like his father, became a DIRTcar official beginning in 2000, retiring from that role after the 2024 season. His father died in 2019 at the age of 94, seven months before his wife of 72 years, Barbara Trabue, Steve’s mother.
Among survivors for Trabue, who operated Steve's Body Shop for nearly 50 years, are wife Bonnie Trabue and a son, Darren. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg followed by a 6 p.m. service. — James Essex

July 18, 2026 - Mother Nature had not played nice for the last three weeks of racing events, but she finally cooperated Saturday night for the running of the Don Russ Memorial for the Bearded Hobo Brewery & Pub Pure Stocks. Thirty-six Pure Stocks were on hand for the event along with Super Late Models, Super Stocks, Crown Vics and Hornets.
Austin Hunter picked a good night to record his first ever Brownstown Speedway win by taking the top spot in the "Bearded Hobo Brewery & Pub" Pure Stocks biggest race of the year, the Don Russ Memorial. Blake Hull would be the early leader of the forty-one lap feature event with Jeff Wilson trailing. Hunter, from his seventh starting spot, would eventually catch Wilson and the duo would have a good battle for the second spot while catching Hull. Wilson and Hunter caught Hull with Wilson taking the lead with twelve laps to go. Hunter kept the pressure on Wilson and took the lead for good with six laps to go. Wilson, Hull, Ross Smith, and Trent Adams trailed Hunter at the checkers.
Matt Boknecht, who earlier this year picked up his very first win in "P3 Graphix" Super Late Models, scored win number two for the year in Super Late Model feature action. Chad Stapleton would lead the early laps of the race with Boknecht in tow. Boknecht took over the lead on lap eight, in a race slowed by only one caution. Boknecht would lead the rest of the way for the win over Stapleton, Don O'Neal, Shelby Miles, Jared Bailey
Make it win number four in 2026 for Zach Sasser in "Pewter Hall" Super Stocks. Zach Sasser jumped to the lead. Cale Kern and Tucker Chastain caught Sasser with Chastain taking the lead with twelve laps to go. Sasser fell back slightly and then started catching Chastain again. Chastain got high off turn four with three laps to go and Sasser went back to the front. Sasser held on after a late race caution to get the win. Kern took second with Isaiah Sasser, Tucker Chastain, and Greg Amick completing the top five.
Matt Cranmer returned to Victory Lane in "Weston Auto Wrecking" Crown Vics for his third win of the year. Cranmer would lead all the feature laps to score the win. Bryson Clark, Ryan Woods, Jesse Stewart Jr., and Paul Ortman followed Cranmer at the finish.
Kaleb Caudill is the fifth different winner of the year in the "NAPA of Brownstown" Hornets. This is Caudill's first win of 2026. Robert Lee, Alex Wilson and Caudill all took a turn at leading the race until Caudill took over and started stretching out the lead. However, a charging Curtis Roccia would make the race interesting. Caudill would hold on for the win over Roccia, Jeremy Wilson, Jeremy Shemwell, and Robert Lee.

June 20, 2026 - It was Kids Night and Drivers Meet & Greet night at the track. Kids competed in pedal car races on the front stretch during the ever-popular Driver Meet & Greet session.
The "P3 Graphix" Super Late Models were on hand for the evening and Derek Groomer scored his second Super Late Model win of the year. Groomer jumped to the lead on lap one from his 4th starting spot and would lead all the feature laps for the win. Chad Stapleton, Shelby Miles, Kent Robinson, & Steve Peeden trailed Groomer at the checkers.
The Sasser brothers win streak continued in "Pewter Hall" Super Stocks. Isaiah Sasser made it two straight wins in Super Stock feature action and tied his brother Zach Sasser with three wins each for the year out of six Super Stock features. Isaiah Sasser took the early lead from his third starting spot and led all twenty laps for the win. Brandon Carr and Zach Sasser stayed within striking distance of Isaiah but would settle for second and third. Jamey Wilson and Brad Cummings rounded out the top five.
Blake Hull parked in victory lane in "Bearded Hobo Brewery & Pub" Pure Stocks for the first time this year. Jt Huffman took the early lead with Blake Hull and Trent Adams in tow. Hull worked his way to the lead and had to hold off Adams at the finish for the win. Huffman, Tommy Fleenor, and Vern Albertson finished behind Hull and Adams.
In "Weston Auto Wrecking" Crown Vics Jesse Stewart Jr. recorded his second win of the year. Stewart took the lead from Matt Cranmer in the early laps of the race and opened up a decent lead. Cranmer seemed to be catching Stewart in the closing laps, but Stewart kept his advantage to get the win. Cranmer would take second ahead of Todd Cain, Ryan Woods, and Dalton Fleenor.
Jeremy Wilson found victory lane for the first time in 2026 in the "NAPA of Brownstown" Hornet division. Jeremy Wilson went to the lead from his pole starting spot and built a big lead over the rest of the field battling for second on back. A late race caution would bunch the field, but it wouldn't matter, as Wilson got the win. Rounding out the top five was Kaleb Caudill, Conner Garrison, Davey Waggoner, Alex Wilson

Tyler Cain Makes It Three Straight Pro Late Model Wins...
I. Sasser, Adams, Cranmer, & Arthur All Find Victory Lane Again.
June 13, 2026 - Saturday night racing returned to the Speedway after a week off. Five racing divisions were on hand for the nights action.
Tyler Cain made it three straight wins in Indiana Pro Late Models for 2026. Cain jumped to the early lead and never looked back to remain undefeated in Pro Late Model feature racing for the year. Hard racing from second on back would see Brent McMillan, Zack Burton, Colby Reed, and Max Olmsted II rounding out the top five.
The Sasser brothers have won all the "Pewter Hall" Super Stock features this season. Isaiah Sasser kept the winning streak going by getting his second win of the year. Colton Sullivan would lead the early laps but retire with mechanical issues. Isaiah took over the lead and got the win over Zach Sasser, Greg Amick, Cale Kern, and Broc Burton.
Trent Adams recorded his third straight win in Bearded Hobo Brewery & Pub Pure Stocks. Adams would lead all twenty laps with Blake Hull keeping within striking distance. A late race caution would bunch the field, but Adams pulled away for the win. Hull and Brad Kemp would fight for second with Hull taking second over Kemp. Rounding out the top five was Tommy Fleenor and Dustin Foster.
Matt Cranmer scored his second win in-a-row in Weston Auto Wrecking Crown Vics. Cranmer pulled away early to a comfortable lead for the win. The rest of the field had a good battle from second on back. Blake Daniels took second ahead of Todd Cain, Paul Ortman, and Jesse Stewart Jr.
In NAPA of Brownstown Hornets, Josh Arthur made it two wins in-a-row and his third overall win for 2026. Arthur would lead all twenty feature laps for the victory. A highly competitive race behind Arthur would end up with Curtis Roccia, Davey Waggoner, Robert Lee, and Scott Smith completing the top five.
